The Maguey Capsule Collection

The Maguey Capsule Collection

This eco-friendly capsule collection aims to promote the preservation of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, one of the most representative ecosystems of  Tropical America known worldwide as a biodiversity hotspot with numerous endemic species. All this, as well as the wide range of environmental services it provides, make it crucial for life.

“In 2013, the International Union of Natural Conservation declared the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta the most irreplaceable ecosystem on the planet due to its contribution against long-term threats.
-YASMIN SABET, FOUNDER AND DESIGNER OF MOLA SASA

The Kankuamo indigenous community has inhabited the area for thousands of years and has responsibly incorporated the use of its natural resources in artisanal activities around the native agave plant they call “Maguey” and from which they extract the “Fique” fiber used mostly in the production of hand woven “Mochilas” or cross body bags.

At Mola Sasa, we have used their traditional crafts and reinvented them with our signature style of mixing techniques from various communities. Our 2 piece capsule collection features a sculptural bucket bag made with Maguey Fiber and Caña Flecha Handles and a new version of our coveted Maguey Hoops in a two tone chromatic scale. All fibers were naturally dyed by the artisans.
