Connecting cultures through design: Our collaboration with Avianca

Connecting cultures through design: Our collaboration with Avianca

Since October 2023, we’ve had the incredible privilege of partnering with avianca on a project that goes beyond design. Together, we created exclusive amenity kits for business class passengers flying across the Americas and Europe, kits that aren’t just practical, but deeply meaningful.

Each of these kits features prints inspired by the traditional visual language of the Gunadule people, an indigenous community from Colombia and Panama that we’ve had the honor of working with for years. While the kits don’t include their physical textiles, the patterns are carefully developed to reflect the bold, geometric, and symbolic nature of their ancestral art. In doing so, we’ve been able to share their story and visual identity with travelers around the world, carrying culture and tradition through the skies.

But for us, this project is about so much more than aesthetics.

Thanks to this collaboration, we’ve been able to generate dignified employment for dozens of Gunadule women, many of whom are heads of household, by involving then directly in the design and creative process. Their knowledge and artistry are at the heart If every thing we do.

And the impact doesn’t stop there. Every single amenity kit is assembled by hand in a partner workshop in Bogotá. This workshop, though not owned by Mola Sasa, is one of our closest allies and shares our values. Most of the women working there are also mothers and heads of households. Through this partnership, they’ve found stable income and meaningful work that supports their families and brings purpose to their everyday efforts.

From 2023 until now, we’ve produced over 516,000 amenity kits, each one crafted with intention and care. Behind every pouch is a chain of lives touched: the women in the community who design the prints, the skilled hands in Bogotá that bring them to life, and the travelers who unknowingly become part of this larger story every time they receive one.

At Mola Sasa, our mission has always been to connect worlds through design. We believe in meaningful collaborations that uplift, respect, and make visible the cultures and communities we work with. Projects like this one with avianca show us what’s possible when purpose and creativity come together: employment, empowerment, and cultural celebration.

We’re deeply grateful to avianca for believing in this vision and allowing us to take the spirit of the Gunadule community around the world. We hope to continue growing along side the communities we care so deeply about, creating more opportunities, more connections, and more stories that deserve to be told.

Fly business class with avianca and start collecting them, each kit is a reminder that design can change lives.
