After almost 5 years reimagining the bold and vibrant kuna textiles into women and home accessories, we are excited to introduce the KUNA CUSTOMIZATION STATION. A unique experience to bring new life into your favorite garments with colorful Kuna textiles.
YOU’RE STILL WONDERING WHAT KUNA TEXTILES ARE?
For generations the indigenous Guna Dule communities of Colombia and Panamá have passed down an ancient appliqué technique of hand sewing cut-out layers of fabric to form an intricate piece of art. Each fabric is the specific design of the artisan woman who carefully works on it. The Guna Dule culture, beliefs and traditions can be found woven into each composition. Some depict stories, animals or daily scenes while others offer a more abstract design.
Back to the customization station… the first one was released at Sabah House NY in celebration of our limited edition footwear collab which was crafted with handmade Kuna textiles from Colombia at Sabah’s new factory at El Paso. A true global collaboration that is now is already traveling the world over; cruising the streets of NYC and beyond.
In a truly special afternoon, more than 30 people upcycled their own garments with vintage Kuna textiles from our archives and scraps from seasonal collections and special collaborations. From jean pockets, shirt collars, jacket cuffs and backs, to regular canvas totes and more... get inspired by the creations of the communities!
